Accept an assignment and ensure you receive a confirmation number
Report to the building on time
Follow all school rules and policies
Be professional and confidential
Dress comfortably but professionally (jeans allowed this year!)
Follow the staff dress code
Keep religious, political, and social views private
Avoid gossip
Be friendly, positive, and enthusiastic
Never leave students unsupervised
Never be alone with a student
Do not leave the building during planning time
Sign in/out at the front office
No cell phone use during class (use only at lunch/planning periods)
No smoking, vaping, or tobacco use on campus
No alcohol or drugs
Avoid visiting your own children at school during the day
Keep all student information confidential
Do not allow students to grade each other’s work
Never discuss private teacher or student matters
Respect student and staff privacy
Review Emergency Exit Maps posted in each classroom
Be aware of students with health issues (e.g., allergies, diabetes)
Some rooms are nut-free zones — do not bring nut-based food
Encourage good hygiene
Do not administer any medication — refer students to the Health Office
Health Offices are located:
Lower Elementary for LE students
Upper Elementary for UE, MS, and HS students
Always stay with your class. In emergencies, send another student for help.
Arrive by 7:55 AM and check in at the front office
Follow provided lesson plans
Return materials and keep the room clean
Stay until bus/car rider dismissal is complete
Leave a note for the teacher about the day
Office staff will give you a substitute folder with instructions
Follow the teacher’s assigned duties listed inside
Collect only lunch money; send all other funds (field trips, fundraisers, etc.) to the office
All children must be treated with respect and care
Refer serious discipline issues to the Principal

Start class promptly and introduce yourself
Take roll at the beginning of each class
Follow lesson plans exactly
Give clear, concise instructions
Use students’ names
Write directions on the board in addition to giving them verbally
Ask thoughtful questions and give students time to respond
Leave the room tidy
Don’t dismiss students early
Sign out and complete your timesheet at the front office before leaving
Be firm but fair
Address issues calmly and privately
Don’t overreact to small misbehaviors
Move around the classroom to monitor behavior
Never leave the room unattended
Avoid group punishment
Pay Day: 15th of each month
If the 15th falls on a weekend, you’ll be paid the Friday before
Direct Deposit is required
Daily Rate:
$80/day for non-certified substitutes
$90/day for certified substitutes
